Welcome to our website. My name is Amy Mazzotta and I'm the owner of The Pottery Place. We are a paint-your-own pottery studio where people of all ages and abilities are welcome to create one of a kind works of art. Our product lines include ceramic painting and Lilly Ollo Silver Clay Jewelry making. We welcome walk-in customers and host parties and programs for both children and adults including storytime, painting classes, and summer camps. We produce a Program Guide throughout the year that lists all our programs and classes and many special events such as Paint with Santa, Princess Parties and much more.

Our History

People often ask me how I got the idea to open a paint-your-own pottery business. It's a simple story really. Years ago, my sister Diane moved to LA and went to work for a paint-your-own pottery studio. She loved her job and kept raving about the concept and telling me I should open one in Albany. Though I'd been involved with arts and crafts my whole life, my vision of ceramics at that time was limited and not very positive (Honestly, I could only think of ashtrays and dancing dolls, which didn't thrill me.) Eventually she wore me down and I went out to visit her studio. What I saw was nothing like I had envisioned. I saw families interacting, I saw people celebrating birthdays, being creative, and most of all I saw people of all ages having fun. As you can probably figure out, I loved the concept and soon afterwards, with my husband Carmen's help, we opened our studio in Stuyvesant Plaza. Our studio has been in business since January 1998. We opened as part of a franchise company and then in October 2007, we left the franchise and became an independent studio. Hence, The Pottery Place was born.

In September 2009, we added Lilly Ollo Silver Clay Jewelry Making to our product line. This has given our customers the opportunity to create their own pure silver works of art. Additionally, as you'll discover while browsing our website, we offer many different programs, classes and events throughout the year.

Our Mission

My greatest joy in owning The Pottery Place, is that it offers people of all ages and artistic abilities, the opportunity to be creative. I BELIEVE that everyone has that ability, even though they may not believe it. We give our customers the tools, the knowledge and the permission to create in a safe environment and watch amazing things happen everyday. It's wonderful! Leave your worries outside our door and come and play with us awhile. Our studio is for all ages, children and adults alike. We all need to tap those creative juices once in a while and The Pottery Place is the creative place to be!

We Ship

Are you visiting from out of town and need to go home before your piece is ready? No problem. For a small fee, we'll carefully wrap your pieces and ship them to you via UPS.

Custom Work Available

We offer Custom Work for all those times when you just don't want to paint yourself. Our talented staff will sit with you until they understand your vision. Then they will use all their expertise to produce a handpainted piece you will love. Signature Platters are our specialty. Custom work on Lilly Ollo Silver Jewelry is also available.

Gift Certificates Available

Always the perfect gift! We sell our gift certificates for any amount you'd like. Our friendly staff will be happy to help you figure out just the right amount for the gift you have in mind.
